The end-of-the-year awards voting has come around for the NFL but there was one notable omission from one of the nominees for the league’s comeback player of the year honor.
Washington Commanders running back Brian Robinson was left off the ballot for voters, raising a few questions about why that was. Before the season, Robinson sustained several injuries from a shooting that sidelined him for a portion of the year. His ability to recover and continue to play on was what many believed qualified him to be up for the yearly award.
Luckily Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk, who is also one of the voters, received the explanation as to why Robinson’s name isn’t on the ballot.
“Rookies aren’t eligible for the award because it recognizes players who were in the NFL the previous season or prior years,” Rob Maaddi of the AP recently told PFT. “Robinson’s case is unique and presents another reason to consider amending the rule.”
Although he won’t be honored as a finalist, Robinson has gained the admiration of everyone for his perseverance.
