Feb. 1—Alexandria High standout Antonio Ross has announced he will attend Alabama and play football as a prefered walk-on.
He made the announcement at a signing celebration at his high school today.
Ross, who is 6-foot-2 and 180 pounds, committed to Liberty in August 2022, but when head coach Hugh Freeze left after the season to be Auburn’s coach, Ross’ standing with the team was uncertain.
He was slated to play safety with Liberty.
Ross announced Jan. 14 that he had received an offer from Alabama to be a preferred walk-on.
At Alexandria, Ross made his name locally as a top-flight running back. He rushed for more than 1,300 yards and scored 29 touchdowns, including 27 on the ground, one on a kickoff return and another receiving.
He made first-team Class 4A-6A All-Calhoun County and first-team 5A all-state under the “athlete” designation.
