With two games left on their 2022 regular-season schedules, the Jacksonville Jaguars and New York Jets have identical 7-8 records. But the teams seem miles apart, with the Jaguars driving for the playoffs and the Jets watching their postseason chances slip away.

On Thursday night, Jacksonville defeated New York 19-3 in the rain for its fourth win in five games while the Jets suffered their fourth loss in a row.

New York yanked starting quarterback Zach Wilson late in the third quarter in favor of Chris Streveler, who hadn’t taken a snap this season. The new QB was more productive than the 2021 NFL Draft’s No. 2 pick, but Streveler didn’t get the Jets in the end zone either.

Back after missing one game because of a calf injury, defensive tackle Quinnen Williams got the Jets off to a great start with a strip sack of Jacksonville quarterback Trevor Lawrence on the third play of the game. The turnover put New York on the Jaguars 16-yard line, and the Jets kicked a field goal from the 19.

New York’s next six possessions produced a net of 46 yards before Streveler relieved Wilson and got 139 yards in three series – two of which ended on failed fourth downs and the other on a fumble.

The Jaguars crossed the goal line only once, when Lawrence scored on a quarterback sneak as Jacksonville took a 10-3 lead with 11:26 left in the first half.

Lawrence completed 20-of-31 passes for 229 yards with no touchdowns and no interceptions and ran for 51 yards and one TD on seven carries. Running back Travis Etienne Jr. ran for 83 yards on 22 carries to reach 1,000 for the season and tight end Evan Engram had seven receptions for 113 yards for the Jaguars.
