10 a.m. update, Tuesday, Dec. 20: We are less than 24 hours from the start of the early signing period. And while Georgia will have some top targets announcing over the course of this week, most of the work is already done. Georgia enters the early signing period with 23 commitments and the No. 2 overall signing class.
The strength of this class is on the defensive side of the ball, with six of Georgia’s top seven commitments playing on that side of the ball. While Georgia does not have a 5-star prospect in the class, the Bulldogs have nine top-100 commitments. And they’re poised to add to that.
Damon Wilson, a 5-star edge rusher out of Venice, Fla., is set to announce his decision on Wednesday. The two finalists are Ohio State and Georgia, with the Bulldogs seemingly in position to land the talented pass rusher. Adding him to a haul of Sam M’Pemba and Gabe Harris would be a very strong first-signing group for outside linebacker coach Chidera Uzo-Diribe.
On Thursday, 4-star defensive tackle Jordan Hall will announce his commitment. The No. 56 overall player is down to Georgia, Alabama and Florida, with the Bulldogs also in a good spot.
Two defensive backs are expected to announce on Wednesday, as former Georgia commit Daniel Harris will sign with his new school. It is a battle between Georgia and Penn State at the moment. Kyron Jones backed off his pledge to NC State, as Georgia and Nebraska battle for his services.
