Ex-NFL Coach Nick Saban Labelled ‘Untouchable’ After His Lack of Action Against Player Who Struck a Woman Who Ran Onto Field

Nick Saban criticized

Tim Brando was speaking with Jacques Doucet of WAFB when the recent events of Alabama vs Tennessee came up. He criticized Saban for the way he handled wide receiver Jermaine Burton’s after-game conduct.

“Nick knows better than to handle it as poorly as he did. But he did because he was upset because he lost the game, and he was upset with the conference office because of a couple of calls, and that affected his better judgment, and he mis-stepped. I said it, and a number of people in the media that don’t cower to Nick said it,” Brando said.

Brando labeled Saban as “untouchable” and said taking a shot at Saban is a mortal sin in Alabama. “But don’t ask anybody in Alabama to believe you when you take a shot at Nick Saban. That’s a mortal sin,” Brando continued.

The Jermaine Burton incident

The incident in question happened after the Tennessee Volunteers beat the Crimson Tide in October. The Volunteers snapped a fifteen-game losing streak when they won through a late field goal.

After the win, the Tennessee fans stormed the field and brought the goalposts down. Alabama WR Jermaine Burton got through a sea of Volunteer fans and made his way towards the tunnel. Just then, a female fan rushed onto the field close to Burton. Burton was caught on camera, reaching out and pushing the female fan in question.

The wide receiver was criticized by the NCAA fans for his actions. But coach Saban did not take any action against him. The wide receiver played in the subsequent game against Mississippi State University. Saban even went on to defend the wide receiver in a press conference.

“I don’t know how many of you have been in a situation like that. I talked to him. He was scared, I was scared, some of our other players were scared,” Saban said.“I think you learn to respect other people because we have a responsibility to do that, regardless of the circumstance we’re in,” the Alabama coach added.

Saban said that it wasn’t necessary to suspend the player. He also added that the wide receiver was receiving counseling after the incident.
