Miami wide receiver Jaylen Waddle reached 1,000 receiving yards for the 2022 season in the Dolphins’ 23-17 loss to the Los Angeles Chargers on Sunday night.
Waddle passed the milestone on a 12-yard reception on the first play after the two-minute warning.
With his 19-yard reception earlier in the second half, the former Alabama standout moved to 1,003 yards on 59 receptions for the 2022 season.
Waddle became the 13th player with 1,000 receiving yards in each of his first two NFL seasons, a list that includes former Alabama standout Amari Cooper.
The other players with 1,000 receiving yards in each of their first two seasons are Odell Beckham Jr., A.J. Brown, Marques Colston, Mike Evans, Bill Gorman, A.J. Green, Bob Hayes, John Jefferson, Justin Jefferson, Randy Moss and Michael Thomas.
Waddle had 1,015 receiving yards in the 2021 season, when he set an NFL rookie record with 104 receptions.
Waddle gave Miami two 1,000-yard receivers this season. Former West Alabama standout Tyreek Hill caught four passes for 81 yards and one touchdown on Sunday night, which boosted his season totals to 1,460 yards and six touchdowns on 100 receptions.
During Sunday night’s game, Hill surpassed the Dolphins’ record for single-season receiving yards. Mark Clayton had held the record since 1984, when he had 1,389 yards and 18 touchdowns on 73 receptions.
Waddle produced the 49th 1,000-yard receiving season recorded by a player from an Alabama high school or college. Sixteen players have been responsible for those seasons.
