TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – Week 12 of the 2022-23 National Football League regular season concluded on Monday night. Below is a look at former Alabama players who excelled this past week.
Josh Jacobs posted a record-setting performance on his way to AFC Offensive Player of the Week honors. The Raiders tailback set the single-game franchise record for total scrimmage yards with 303, including a franchise-high 229 rushing on 33 carries. He also contributed 74 receiving yards on six catches. Most importantly, Jacobs broke through for the game-winning 86-yard touchdown run in overtime to give Las Vegas the victory over the Seattle Seahawks.
Eagles’ quarterback Jalen Hurts laid claim to NFC Offensive Player of the Week honors thanks to another outstanding effort. Hurts rushed 17 times for 157 yards to go with 153 yards and two touchdowns through the air on 16-of-28 passing. The 157 yards were the most by a quarterback in franchise history with Philadelphia cruising to a 40-33 win over the Green Bay Packers.
Joining Jacobs and Hurts in earning player of the week honors was Chargers’ punter JK Scott, named the AFC Special Teams Player of the Week. The veteran punted six times for 234 yards in Los Angeles’ 25-24 win over the Arizona Cardinals. His efforts were highlighted by four punts inside the 20-yard line to help the Bolts win the field position battle in the one-point affair.
Quarterback Mac Jones shined on Thanksgiving Day for the New England Patriots, throwing for 382 yards and two touchdowns while completing 28-of-39 passes. Amari Cooper helped the Browns to an overtime upset of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Cooper registered seven receptions for 94 yards, but his biggest catch came on a 45-yard reception to set up the game-winning score for Cleveland.
New York Jets’ linebacker C.J. Mosley had another stellar day to highlight the group of former Tide defenders. Mosley totaled 10 tackles while adding one quarterback hurry, a pass defense and an interception to help the Jets to a 31-10 win over the Bears.
Moving to the secondary, Marlon Humphrey played a crucial role for the Baltimore Ravens. Humphrey contributed six tackles, including two for loss, to go along with a sack and a quarterback hurry. Commanders’ lineman Daron Payne had a similar stat line, registering six stops, two being for loss, and adding one pass defense in Washington’s victory over the Atlanta Falcons.
